In Isaiah 29, Isaiah takes aim at the prophets and seers (10, 14), those who should have been speaking out the word of truth and confronting the evil of the day. Instead, they were hiding in their dark places, hiding their plans from the Lord as though He could not see them (v15).
Webb comments, "...all of this (take note) while retaining their religious titles and the meticulous observation of the externals. It is truly astounding what depths of inconsistency religious people are capable of, especially in the positions of leadership, where backroom decisions and policies all too often belie the faith in God that is professed in the pulpit." - p125.
